Urgent Advice Re Retrieving Personal Possessions from Landlord

I rented a basement apt. in Spotsylvania, VA 5/3/2006. I pd amt req. on 5/3/06 w/200 dep. I moved out prior to the next month's rent not owing anything and leaving them 200 deposit and then gave them furniture which they took. Due to a mental breakdown that took place in 2/05. I have memory lapses, thought disorder and suicidal tendancies. I was and have been under intense psych. treatment since 05. I cannot work and get ssdi. I moved to Chesapeake Bch MD with who is now my fiancee Office Lou Cannon who is trying to help me. I know I have tubs there that belong to me but because of my illness for one reason or other did not go back and get them. However, I do want them. I made note last time I talked to landlord she was upset said she would talk to husband and call me back about my things and said I had been a burden. I did not intentionally mean to be a burden to anyone. I have medical proof of my illness and memory problems and thought disorder. I just really need some legal advice as I happened to recall my family tree binder is in one of the tubs that took a long time to do. When you reply I am going to show it to my fiancee who really is trying to help me resolve this mtr. Thank you

You and your fiance should pay a visit to your former landlord in Spotsylvania and ask for the return of your items of personal property.

If the landlord refuses, you should tell her that you will then have no alternative but to file a case in the Spotsylvania General District Court for the return of your property. Then do it.(You would file what's called a Warrant in Detinue for the return of your property. The clerk at the court will have the papers which you will need to fill out and then give to her for filing.)
