Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

Utilities

I am a landlord, that still lives in the basement of the house I rented out. The tenants have refused to pay rent or utilities. The utility companies are threatening to turn off utilities because I can't afford it on my own. Am I liable in court for the utilities being turned off?

Re: Utilities

The legal issue would likely turn upon what the lease agreement has to say about who is responsible for paying the utilities. If this agreement dosen't appear to address the issue or is ambiguous, as the landlord, you're probably "on the hook", so to speak for these utilities.
