Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Virginia
lawyer behaving unethically?
I hired a lawyer to represent me in a case against my former landlord. We agreed upon a set price, but after I paid for her services she seemed to lose interest in my case. I never talked to her again until the day we went to court. When we got there she didn't even know why we were there, the judge had to read her the warrant in debt. The end result is that I had to appeal the case, which she said she would not charge me extra for, but here it is the day before court and she sent me a letter saying that I had to pay her $600 or she would not show up to court. Is there any kind of action that I can take against her?

Re: lawyer behaving unethically?
Call the attorney up and remind her of
her previous promise. Then, if she fails to follow through as promised with the representation on your appeal (presumably)to the circuit court, you may wish to consider filing a complaint with the Virginia State Bar.
