Is it ethical (legal) for an employee of a law firm who is not an attorney to be paid a certain percentage of the attorney's fees charged on certain legal work done by the firm?

The law firm should be calculating and paying this nonattorney's compensation(as a paralegal or whatever)on the basis of the agreed upon hourly rate for this particular person and not as a percentage of any particular attorney's work on any particular matter.

The Virginia Rules Of Professional Conduct generally prohibit an attorney from splitting or sharing his/her fees with a nonattorney.
