Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Virginia

my nephew is signing his poa (general poa) to me since he is in the adult psychiatric ward at a local hospital, and may be transferred to a state facility for a while, he was on probation and got into some trouble with the law while manic and psychotic from his bipolar. Will this allow me to file his disability on his behalf? and will this make me responsible for his bills with my income instead of his if something should happen to him? What would my responsibilities be?

Assuming that this POA is appropriate for the authority it intends to confer upon you to act in

your impaired nephew's behalf and has been properly executed, it should allow you to file

for his disability claim(s)---in my opinion.

And, no, you cannot be adjudged responsible for your nephew's bills unless you've guaranteed

to assume this personal responsibilty for paying them.
