Summons to court
I am a professor giving a test out tomorrow. I have a student who says she has been requested 48 hours ago to testify on a case tomorrow. I thought subpoenas had to give more time. Are there other forms of requests to come to court besides subpoenas and do they give less time?

Yes, subpoenas normally require several weeks to effect their proper service upon witnesses. The only other form of request would be a verbal one by one of the attorneys for a party for the witness to appear voluntarily to testify.(It should not be too difficult to verify whether such a request was actually made of this particular student.)
