Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Virginia

Patient Dumping

I saw a Pain Management doctor who was treating me. I have been using narcotic drugs presrcibed by this doctor to help control the pain. I have followed all the rules, never abused anything, followed the pain contract I signed, never asked for early refilled, nver doctor shopped, used the same pharmacy, etc ...

I was complaining to him the medicine was not working, either it was too small a dosage, or the wrong med, and he said he was dropping me as a patient. Just like that. Without refills, I am going thru withdrawal, and my pain has skyrocketed. I barely can leave the house and suffer all day.

Qusetion: Can a doctor just dump a patient for any reason?

and what about pain meds since the patient may go thru withdrawal? Isn't there laws to stop this?

Thank You,

Ken
