If someone has already gone AWAL and they want to turn themselves in is there a chance that they can now be discharged and removed from the military?

Re: Discharged

It is possible to be immediately discharged from the military following a period of AWOL. It just depends on a number of factors: how long the AWOL was, what caused the absence, what position you were in prior to leaving, etc. It short, it depends on a number of curcumstances. It also is up to the command to decide what to do. Often for a short absence they will just award a discharge. If it is a longer period or more severe, it could go to a court-martial. I just cannot give you any more specific information right now because I do not know all the circumstances.
