Legal Question in Personal Injury in Virginia
last friday: four of my friends were leaving a party when a group of six guys started calling us faggots and other insults. we jawed back and forth for a few minutes, exchanging insults, when one of the guys sucker punched me in the left eye. they threw me to the ground and kicked me several times in the face. my friend, who was trying to break up the fight, got punched in the lip. my other friend knocked a guy to the ground. there are no signs of injury on any of the guys we fought, but i received a concussion, a bruised eye, and a facial laceration and my friend broke his nose. alcohol was involved on both sides. would it be wise to press charges?

Yes. of course; your description of the matter would seem to clearly indicate
a criminal assault and battery upon your person. Your attackers, of course,
will likely have a different version of the event for the cops investigating the matter, suggesting that you and your friends were not only the provocateurs but the attackers.
However, that should not deter you from filing charge(s) and letting law enforcement sort it out from the evidence after you and your friends have given your respective honest accounts of exactly what happened.
