Legal Question in Personal Injury in Virginia

slip and fall

I rent a townhouse and I fell down the stairs. I informed the real estate office who handles the home the I thought the carpeting on the stairs could be a problem since it seems to move when you walk down them. Could I seek damages for my fall from either the real estate office or the owner, since I have missed work and have incured medical bills.
