Legal Question in Personal Injury in Virginia

my son had an accident about a year ago. the rider in the car with him was hurt and the insurance payed all the bills, they now are no longer friends and now she has sued him for a grand amount. Is she able to do it and what are my options to help my son, this will ruin his young life.
