Being sued

I am being sued, resulting from a car accident over two years ago. My insurance co. dropped me. Can my assets be taken?

Re: Being sued

1. Check out VA and NC statutes of limitations. It may be too late to sue you over an accident more than two years ago.

2. Insurance company might need to be made a defendant in your case, if termination of your coverage was improper.

3. Theoretically, your assets might be at risk if (a) plaintiff gets a judgment against you, (b) you do not own the assets as husband and wife, (c) you do not file a homestead exemption, and (d) you do not seek bankruptcy protection.

These are complicated legal issues that require research and an opinion from compentent counsel. You should not try to handle this yourself. Let me know if you would like further assistance.
