Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

In 2003 I sold my parents house to my cousin. At that time I was not able to take all of the tools and other items from the detached garage, but had a verbal agreement with my cousin that it was okay to leave them there as long as it was okay for him to use them.

Throughout the years, I have brought several tools home, but have not been able to bring many of the items due to lack of space.

Recently, there was a fire in the garage. He filed an insurance claim and has now informed me that the property was abandoned and as far as he was concerned, it conveyed with the house.

Did I give up my rights by waiting so long?

Maybe not, but given your cousin's recently announced position on the matter, how would you prove otherwise?
