Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
About 2 years ago, my husband did some artwork for a book. There was no contract involved in the artwork. They were going to be partners on the book. Needless to say, they had a dispute, and the book didn't go through at the time. We recently found out that they are planning to sell a book with his artwork in it though. He has not granted them permission to use his artwork on this venture. He is also not receiving recognition in the book either. There is no registered trademark or copyright in place either. Is it illegal for them to use his artwork?

Yes, it would seem so since it apparently is your husband's original work
and the copyright became "fixed" when the work was created.
