Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
I was asked to foster an older animal from the humane Society. I did not want to adopt due to having five other animals. I have been fostering the cat since May 09. I stopped hearing from the Society around 7 July09. They have not called to check on her even though she had an eye injury. They did not provide any food, medical supplies nor contact. Now, they called and stated they can't get anyone to adopt her and want me to bring her in. I don't think I should have to surrender her because they abadoned her while I provided for her needs. I believe this is a tactic to get me to pay to adopt her.
Am I legally responsible to surrender her or am I justified in stating I paid for her already thru caring for her with no support from the society?
They claim no one wants to adopt her but I sent pics of her and she is listed on their website with no pics. Advice needed Thank you

Since "fostering" does not confer ownership of the animal(without adoption) and apparently requires the "fosterer" to defray the expenses incurred wirh such activity, this humane society would appear to still be the rightful owner of the cat and therefore you must abide by its request "to bring her in"(in my opinion).
