Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

We had to break our lease in Loudoun County VA due to my wife becoming il and not being able to work and my income alone not enough to continue living there, we moved to TN where we can afford to live.

There was still 9 months left on the lease and they are willing to let us out for 2 months penalty = $3000, I have read in VA if they re-rent it we are only responsible for the time it was vacant and found out it was only vacant for a week.

Yes, a Virginia landlord is required to mitigate his or her damages

by making reasonable efforts to relet a rental unit the lease of which

has been subject to premature termination.
