Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
The other day I got arrested for stealing a few candy bars from a gas station. I know it was dumb, it was an idiotic thing to do, but I'm curious as to what, in Virginia, the courts will do. My friend says its probably going to be community service. The total was literally under 5 dollars, and I cooperated and everything. Also, the cop didn't take me to the station, merely to his car to write me a citation. The actual charge on it is "larceny, under 200 dollars". Am I going to have to pay a fine, will I have to do community service, or what? I am 18, but this is my first offense. I didn't really think they would do a whole lot for just a few candy bars, but I am not really sure. Please help, I keep worrying about it.

Yes, as a first time offender you should be eligible for SIS(Suspended Imposition of Sentence), a disposition which will allow you to emerge from this incident without a record of conviction for this charge of petty larceny, if you complete all the conditions of your probation successfully.
However, you may have to pay a modest fine and possibly do some community service as well as attend and complete an educational program for larceny offenders, depending upon the particular court involved.
