Engagement is over...what legally do I do with the ring??

I was engaged September of 2002. He has since broken off our engagement and I have this extremely nice ring that I need to know what to do with it...legally. My first reaction is to sell it and go shopping but in the chance he wants it back I need to know if I have to give it back. I consider it a gift and I don't think a gift should be asked for back. Legally, am I required to give back the engagement ring if he does or does not ask for the ring back?

Gifts are not required to be returned to the giver, under law, however, morally, there may

be reasons to do so.
