Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
Excessive Rent
I'm a member of a fraternity and we are currently renting a house from another fraternity, we recently realized that the rent we are paying each year is 20% of the value of the total property(land and house). I was wondering if there were any laws in Virginia that forbid excessive rent, because it doesnt seem right that they can charge that much rent on the house.

Re: Excessive Rent
You will find only in certain jurisdictions like the District of Columbia and New York City
specific municipal ordinances mandating rent control in certain areas of the city under specific circumstances.
You will find no such manifestations of socialistic paternalism in the Commonwealth of Virgina, as far as I am aware.
Re: Excessive Rent
Unfortunately not. But when the lease comes up for renewal your fraternity will be able to make a better informed decision as to its rent and the house it either get more space or pay less rent.
