Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

My father parked his car in a friend's barn about 50 years ago. The property was sold from one family member to another and then to a different person who then sold it to the different person's son. When the property was sold from the original family to the different person, the family told the man that the car belonged to my father and that it did not go with the barn and the other property.

My father is now deceased. Does the car belong to my mother or because of the length of time it has been in this barn, has ownership been transfered to the barn's owner? If we have the title does that make a difference?

Take the title to this car and go see the current owner of the property and see whether s/he'll release this vehicular museum piece to your mother, as the apparent rightful owner--after getting your explanation of the matter, of course.

After all, as the old saying goes: "Them that don't ask (usually) don't get!"
