Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

I just found out that my home is on the neighbor's yard!

I purchased a home a few years ago and just found out that five feet of it is on the neighbors property. The previous owners were real estate agents - they told me that the property line was approximately 15 feet from where it actually is. Is there anything I can do?

If the house itself is actually five feet over the line into your neighbor's property, you may actually have to move it or see whether you can buy the neighbor out of the five feet and whatever else in terms of set back acreage that may be required to make the property compliant under local zoning laws. (You may also have a cause of action against those who sold the home to your if they misrepresented the actual survey situation in response to your inquiries.)
