Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

My ex girlfriend, whom I lived with in her home for about 8 months gave me an old laptop just before I moved out. She is now saying she did not give it to me and wants it back. I cannot afford one, am unemployed, and use the laptop in my search for employment.

Does she have a legal right to take back the computer?
