Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
When my grandfather passed away, he left a piece of land to 4 grandchildren. My sister and I have been paying the personal property taxes on the land for 5 years without any help from our cousins. We put the lot up for sale with a realtor and the contract just ran out without interest. I would like to auction it off. I just want it (and cousins) out of my hair. Can my sister and I force our 2 cousins to auction the lots?

No, you cannot force the other two co-owners (cousins) of this property
to participate in your plans for an auction of this property. If they
refuse to cooperate in this proposal, then your remedy would
be to either buyout their respective interests or file a
partition suit in the local circuit court.
Furthermore, you could not have sold this property under the contract which
you claim just expired without their respective signatures on the sale
documents.
