Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
Historical Commitee (HOA)
We purchased a house which is considered historical and are in the process of remodeling it. When we decided to go with the asphalt shingles for the roof we were turned down by the Historical Commitee in Portsmouth even though all houses on the street have done the same and were approved. They would like us to go with the tin without paint. Is there anything we can do as we would rather not go with the cheaper tin and would be the only remodeled house with it.

Re: Historical Commitee (HOA)
You may wish to consider consulting a Portsmouth attorney who is knowledgeable in local zoning and land use laws/ordinances. I suspect, however, that your viable recourse with respect to this decision of the Historical Committee is either very limited or non-existent.
