Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
housing issue
my aunt is my grandma's medical power of attorney. aunt took grandma to live in aunt's house, pays a nrs to care for grandma during workweek. my sister & aunt signed an agreement (notarized)stating my sister can remain in grandma's house so long as sister pays the utilities/tax/insurance/ upkeep. now aunt suggesting sister start paying her $300 rent/mo. my sister also watches grandma every weekend. the only time aunt brings up rent is when sister wants to go on vacation w/her kids. if my aunt decides sister must pay rent or leave, will the original agreemnt be broken? will she be considered a tenant & no longer responsible for upkeep/taxes/insurance etc?

Re: housing issue
An attorney should review this agreement in order to determine its enforceability, but the
aunt as the owner of the house can very likely do whatever she believes that she needs to do at some point to require that your sister either pay the rent which your aunt is seeking or leave her house.
