Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Judgement for an apartment

I have been served with a judgement for an apartment that I moved out of on a month to month lease. The collection company says that the management company renewed my lease without my permission and now I have to pay 2700 or they will garnish my wages. If I did not consent to renew my lease do I still have to pay. How can I fight this in court.

Re: Judgement for an apartment

If the papers with which you have been served are notice of a pending lawsuit for the rental amounts in dispute, you should attend the scheduled hearing and dispute the claim(s) on the basis that you never agreed to renew the lease and hence the amounts alleged as owed by you are simply wrong.

If for some reason the judgment has already been entered against you, then you should go to the clerk's office of the general district court which entered the judgment and ask to file papers to have it set aside or vacated.
