Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
is there a landlock law
I recently purchased some property at a tax auction. I received a deed in the mail. I went to the courthouse and searched for a platt and could not find one. I found previous owners and location of land. I was told by several people it was landlocked, including a surveyor. I was told at the auction I could get a right of way to it. Is there a landlock law? If so what do I need to do? It is 10 acres with the interstate in front where the right of way used to be. The railroad is in the back. There is a side road that goes under interstate and to railroad track. But several people own land between my land and the road. This is the only road. Thank you

Re: is there a landlock law
Landlocked property is entitled to an easement by necessity under certain circumstances, including that there must once have been common ownership. You need to see a lawyer to go over the specific details.
