Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Landord dispute

I am having a legal dispute with my landlord. My rent was late the check bounced but was then re submitted on the 16th. on the 21st I received a letter that I owe rent and $112 in fees. Their offices are closed on weekends so I contact them on Monday. i speak with their accountant and he checks if the rent was resubmitted and it was. I also learn that I have a $141 credit on my account because I overpaid for rent previously, the landlord never informed me my rent was reduced for one month. Well on the thirty first I receive a summons from civil court that I owe rent plus the $112 of fees plus another $100 in court and lawyer fees. This was signed by the judge and their lawyer on the 29th. I clearly had paid the rent and had more than enough money on my account to cover the initial charges. DO I have any grounds to not pay the second set of fees and go to court? The lease clearly states I may have to pay the $112 in fees and possibly court and lawyer fees.

Re: Landord dispute

You had best go to court on the date scheduled and explain it all first to the landlord's lawyer, and then, if necessary to the judge.
