Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Leasing Laws, Please respond

I was rented an apartment and found out 2 weeks after I moved in that the place was bug infested and bed bug infested. I have had to throw out my furniture and beds. I also found out the leasing company had prior knowledge that the place they rented me had these issues. Where they legally obligated to inform me of these issues? What can I do?

No, as far as I know, the landlord had no legal obligation to report the bugs (which are relatively common in rental units)and since the irritants which you've described would be very unlikely to form a viable basis for what the law calls a "constructive eviction", I'd have to say it would seem that you're pretty much stuck with the unit until the lease expires--unless you can prevail on the mangement to move you to a less infested premises.
