Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
I left a high end hotel in Savannah yesterday a.m. @ 6:00. To the dismay of the young valet- he was unable to locate my keys. After several minutes of looking, I said- I will check out the car and see if they are there. They were not only in the car sitting on display in the passenger seat- the car had been left unlocked all night in the small alley beside the hotel. I arrived at the hotel after having been with them several days- @ 7:00 the night before and they parked my car at that time. I had left my purse- golf clubs and a few other items in the car as I was leaving early the next morning. I understand they are generally not "responsible" for contents of car- but how about if THEY left the car keys in the car and unlocked all night. My purse was taken with about $270 cash in my wallet and several credit and bank cards. The response I got from this "HIGH END" hotel was- it is our understanding that you had possession of your keys on the morning in question. I guess they parked my car and came up to my room and handed me the keys----REALLY?? Do I have any type of battle with them. Negligence is so obvious- but they are working hard to cover their ******. Send a written demand notice to the hotel headquarters for the amount necessary to cover your losses with copies to the Savannah establishment as well as the corporation's CEO and see what happens.
