Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
life estate given to land by one co-owner without consent of other co-owners
Three people jointly own a piece of land. One co-owner gives another person a life estate to the property without the consent of the other co-owners. What recourse does the other two co-owners have, if any? Thanks

Most likely, a suit in the circuit court to partition the property, and if such is not feasible, then a court order directing that the property be sold, the life estate extinguished, and the sale proceeds divided among the owners of record.
