Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Liquidating Joint Property

I BOUGHT A HOUSE (SFH) WITH A FRIEND IN OCT 2004. I WANT TO SELL, SHE REFUSES. I MOVED OUT 11-1-06. CAN A LAWYER INSURE THAT I GET MY EQUITY SOON? i WANT MY NAME OFF THE LOAN AS IT IMPEDES ME FROM PURCHASING ANOTHER HOME OF MY OWN. CAN SHE DEDUCT MONEY FROM MY HALF OF THE EQUITY SINCE SHE IS PAYING THE LOAN NOW AND I AM NOT PAYING MY HALF? i AM WILLING TO SETTLE FOR MUCH LESS THAN MARKET VALUE BUT SHE IS BEING VINDICTIVE AND UNREASONABLE. WHAT CAN I DO?

Re: Liquidating Joint Property

"Can a lawyer insure that I get my equity soon?",

you enquire. Why, of course, some Shylock purporting to have the required legal credentials

to take care of your legal problem could emerge within your vicinity at any time-----and willing to take your case for the required exorbitant retainer fee.

You should ignore such counsel's unworthy solicitations. It may be necessary, however, if no settlement of the major issues can be reached with your friend, that you retain an attorney mindful of ethical considerations to file an action in your behalf to quiet title to end the dispute.
