How Long Of A Marriage

How Long of a marriage does a couple have to be if one dies and no will made on certain property, but a husband is the survivior plus three children from a different marriage. The husband is the executor of the property now and has been for 3 years, but the 3 children are telling him that he wasn't married 7 years to their mother. I am trying to help this man out cause he is handicapped with diabetes, can't drive and ohter things, other then that he does fine, he has kepted this house in good shape. pays the taxes, etc. I live here also to help him. Is there an age with marriage for him to inherient.
