Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
I lost my job several months ago and have acquired temp work. Now that is over and we would like to move to my mother in laws farm in florida. Our lease is not over until the end of december. The property manager says it is up to the home owner but it seems she has not contacted them. One other issue is that one window in our house has been broken for a long time and has not been fixed. We have spoken with them about this but now that we want to get out of the lease we are afraid they will take it out of our security deposit even though they have said they will replace the window since it is not our fault. They say that we are not allowed to get out of the lease. I remember readin in one of the packets (not the actual lease) that change of life situations constitute for getting out of the lease. how can we get out of this lease ASAP? Can we?

You apparently have been misinformed; you cannot get out of your lease for the kind of reason that you've described, i.e., wanting to move to mother in law's farm in Florida.
However, if the property owner is amenable to permitting you to terminate the lease early and without penalty, that would be the only way you could do it under the particular circumstances you've described(in my opinion).
