When you obtain a judgement against someone in Virginia, are liens put on their real property automatically? Or must you record a lien in addition to getting the judgement?

No; such a lien arising from the referenced judgment must be formally recorded against the particular property in the database of the land records
section of the circuit court in the city or county where the property is
located.
