Who owes what?

I bought a home about 7 months ago from my neighbor. They had to do allot of work and gave us they money to fix the house before we legally bought due to the poor conditions of the house. We came across some other problem which cost some more money but it was things that had to be done before we bought the house. They put some things on there credit card and we said we would pay for the upgrades we wanted for the floor. We have paid a few payments on the cards and have about 3 payments to go and now they say we have to pay off the hole thing. The cards are in there name and when we finally bought the house the contract said as is. So do we have to pay off there credit cards? They are now saying we have to cause it was for the house and they dont remember our verbal agreement? What do I do?
