Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

My ex and myself are co owners of a car. My ex died. His wife that he was still legally married to but separated from many years has the car and will not return it to me. Ian,still having to pay the car note on it. How can I get the car back?

If you have credible proof of ownership of this vehicle, you could file what's called a Warrant in Detinue in your local general district court, requesting the return of the vehicle

or in the alternative (if such is not possible) that the court award you a judgment against

this wrongful withholder for the vehicle's fair market value.
