Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

I pay for monthly parking in a garage where I work. They give us a transponder which opens the gates. If one neglects to pay the monthly fee before the end of the previous month the transponder will not work. For example, If one neglects to pay for December parking before December 1 then the transponder will not work on December 1.

When this happens, you have to take a ticket to open the gates. Even if one goes in and immediately pays for the month of December, the garage requires you to pay for the day because you took the ticket. Is this legal? It seems to me they are charging people twice for the same service. If one pays for the monthly service on December 1 then I think one should not also have to pay for the individual ticket on December 1.

Yes, your claim seems reasonable, but if the garage operators wish to continue

with imposing what might be described as a penalty or surcharge against those patrons who have not paid the monthly fee before the first of the month, they would appear free to do so(in my opinion).
