Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
Personal Injury Due to Removal of my home
I received notice from the town I live in that I have to move due to emminent domain being held over me. First they tell me they are taking it for a ridiculously low price. Then I am told that the deal fell through and my home would not be bothered. Then I receive a letter in the mail telling me that they want to do another appraisal to make me an offer for my home. This has all been going on for approximately a year and a half. I have cried, I can't sleep at night, I packed my things to be told I didn't need to do this, then I unpack them and am led to believe that I will have to re-pack them. I was searching for a new residence, which took a lot of time, then stopped because I was led to believe that I would not need to move. Please tell me if there is anything I can do about this. I am very distressed over this issue and I don't think it is fair that they can do this to people whether they use emminent domain or not. Please help me. I want to know if I have a case against them for treating me and my feelings with complete disregard.

Re: Personal Injury Due to Removal of my home
Generally, a person cannot sue government officials for treating his or her feelings with complete disregard. You do have the right to certain procedures to make sure you are adequately compensated for the taking of your property, which an attorney specializing in eminent domain law can help you with.
