Real Estate Inquiry
Dear Sir or Madam,
My husband and I are in the process of searching for a home to purchase. We have not signed any contracts with realtors. We have switched real estate agents because we felt our first one was not representing our interests. We would like to make an offer on a home that was shown to us by both the first agent and our new one. When we notified our first agent that we no longer wished to work with her, she told us that we must compensate her if we purchase any home she showed us. Are we under any obligation to compensate our first agent if we purchase a home through our current agent that our first agent also showed us? Thank you very much for your assistance.

From the facts you have described,if you have no written agreement with Agent 1, it is unlikely you would be obligated to pay anything. Generally,unless there is a paricular buyer's agent agreement, the commission is paid by the seller anyway. You might want to retain attorney to advise you further.
