Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
Real Estate
I recently found an apartment in Radford, VA before signing the lease I wanted to make sure my pet would be allowed at the property. The leasing agent contacted me telling me the pet would be allowed with a written not from a physician. I presented the leasing office with this note and they asked for a picture of the pet. I provided the picture of the pet then the property manager told me my pet looked like a rotweiller and that it was not allowed on the property, unless I provided a note from my vet. stating that the pet was not a rotweiller. I faxed this note from my vet. to the property manager and now she is telling me that she contacted her property owner and my pet will still not be allowed. Therefore I told her to tell her property owner if I could not have my pet that I wanted out of the lease. She then informed me that I would not be able to break the lease nor could I keep my pet, the next day I recieved a $100.00 fine for having a pet on the property. What can I do?

Contest the fine with your written response to the landlord and refusal to pay it, and then be prepared to litigate the matter in your local general district court.
