Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Realtor negligence

We had a realtor showing our home during an open house. We had informed realtor that our home had no power. Deciding to hold the open house, the realtor opened our fuse box and began messing with it, which started a fire in our basement. We have lost all power to our home, have minor damage, and are currently displaced. The real estate company has no response, and we are left to cover this through our home insurance. What is the real estate company's liability?

Re: Realtor negligence

Who knows, without knowing more of the matter? However, if the agent failed to use due care in delving into the mysteries of the fuse box and, consequently, negligently caused damage(s) to your property, both the real estate company and the realtor could be liable.

Re: Realtor negligence

There is more information needed, howver, the Real Estate Broker and agent may both responsible. You may also have other damages if this contributes a delayed sale, etc. You may wish to discuss options with an attorney.
