Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
Recently my parents have divided up ther proprety amog the 4 children My sister got 5.6 acreas I got 4 .3 there was a fence wher my cattle ran for 7 yrears the new property lines is abot 50 ft on my side now so a new fence is to be built . My sister was suppose to build new fence but has not done it and complains I should build it though my parents told me she be building new fence. Its about 350 ft accross a field. What is the law regarding this type of transaction.

The law regarding fences has changed in the Commonwealth since the old
tomato farmer in Caroline County was gunned down a few years back by the
Richmond lawyer who owned a cattle ranch adjacent to this farmer's property and who (understandably)refused to share in the cost of erecting a fence to control the lawyer's cattle.
Consequently, I do not believe that your sister can be required to erect a fence
on your property under the facts described nor even to share in your cost of
erecting such a fence.
