Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

References

I have rented for 6 years and was late in paying my rent less than 5 times due to disability from work. I had a prospective homeowner to rent to me, however, my current landlord gave me a negative reference and said she would not rent to me again in the future, also the landlord indicated that they would no longer receive checks for payments from me since I had written bad checks in the past...they just accepted my May's rent check. How do I get around contacting this bitter landlord?

Re: References

Your best approach is probably to keep looking for a congenial new landlord who has a rental unit suitable for your needs and who will listen to your honest explanation for any negative reports which may be supplied by your current landlord (who actually may be giving negative references with the hope of keeping you as her tenant).
