Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Rejecting counter offer

I applied for a rental home. The rental agreement was sent by he landlord after a week. The conditions in the agreement were not acceptable to me, so I made modifications on the document, signed it and faxed it to the landlord. The land lord sent a counter offer with further changes by email (not signed). The changes were still not acceptable to me. So, I rejected the agreement. The landlord then signed my first offer and agreed to the terms put forth by me n that. But, now I am no longer interested to rent the property. Hearing this he has threatened me to take me to court. Is it possible to take such steps by the landlord after a counter offer is rejected by me. Please advice.

Re: Rejecting counter offer

Once an offer has been rejected, including by counter-offer, it cannot be accepted. An attempted acceptance is deemed a new offer, which can be rejected.
