Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Rent to own home

Can you rent a home from homeowner til time of purchase through a real estate agent? Can a contract be written to state that the purchaser agrees to purchase home after said period of time expires of the contract? Rent til closing?

Re: Rent to own home

Contracts for deed(rent to own)and lease agreements with an option to buy are still being used by prospective purchasers of real property as far as I am aware--whether or not such transactons are "through a real estate agent".

However, the contract for deed is probably the least desirable method of purchasing such property and should be avoided if at all possible in favor of a regular mortgage/deed of trust.
