Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia
Road committee
I live in a development and when I bought my house there was nothing stating I had to pay a road committee. Nothing on the sale brochure and on my deed. My deed states no POA.I was sent a bill stating I had to pay a $50 a year committee for road maintances or they will put a lein on my property. In this statement they sent me a letter enclosed titled Restricted Covenants. They underlined where it stated that in July 1976 all lots shown in the map at that time must pay this $50 road maintance for 50 years. However my house was not even developed at that time.I wrote the county and they have no reord for any Road Committee. Now my question is; Do I have to pay this Committee or is it just a volunteer Committee? Can they legally put a lein on my property?I need an answer ASAP cause they have a meeting Jan 29 2005.At that meeting they state if the dues is not paid they will start legal action.Thank you for your time.

You would be well advised to arrange a consultation with an attorney knowledgeable in these matters during which s/he could review the relevant documents in order to determine what your obligations might in fact be.
From the facts which you've offered thus far, a reliable determination on this issue simply cannot be made.
