Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Selling a house

As we sat down to close with the buyer they needed to change the contract by $4,000.00, or they couldn't do the deal! Our furniture was sitting in the moving vans.....was this legal? Did we have any option other than to unpack?

Re: Selling a house

You would seem to be saying that after agreeing to one price to buy your house and putting his or her signature to a sales contract, the buyer then reneged on that particular deal and demanded one that involved a reduction in price by $4000. If such was what occurred, that would appear to have been a material breach of the original contract which you could've rejected and then demanded damages(and successfully sued if required) for your losses occasioned by the buyer's breach.
