Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

squatter right or adverse possession

We owned property that have been in the family since 1900, we have the original deed and tax papers dated back to that time. The adjoining land-owner claimed it on adverse possession or squatter rights, without us knowing about it, is there anything we can do to break those terms. Do we have any rights in this matter?

Adverse possession in VA is a valid claim in VA after 15 years, but it depends on the facts. Consult with VA counsel immediately.
