Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Do I have to be a student for my parents to co-sign a lease?

I am working full time and currently looking for a one-bedroom apartment. Unfortunately my income might not be enough to get approved for a one-bedroom apartment. I know I can budget myself so that I can afford it, but so that I will get approved, my parents have agreed to co-sign an apartment lease with me. However, the rental manager at an apartment complex told me I had to be a student in order for my parents to co-sign a lease. Is that true? Thank you in advance for your help!

If you're still a minor, that, generally, could possibly be the case.

However, if you've achieved your age of majority (18), I would think that there would be some rental complexes out there that would be more than happy to have your parents on your lease as co-obligors.
